Accessibility

Come as you are, you are welcome here

We have an accessible building. Disabled people are welcome here. When we worship and pray together, we have more fun and learn better! We value your feedback when you visit us.

You will find information about our accessibility facilities on this page but please get in touch with our Disability Support Co-ordinator Karen if you have any questions or concerns, using the button below.

Website Accessibility

Should you have trouble reading this, or any other page on our website, you should be able to magnify your screen on a laptop by holding the ‘ctrl’ key down and pressing the plus (+) sign key. In order to get the page back to its normal size – hold the ‘ctrl’ key while pressing the minus (-) sign. On a phone or iPad use the pinch-to-zoom feature. Start with your thumb and index finger together on the screen and slide them apart on the screen to get the screen bigger. To get the website page back to its normal size, start with the thumb and index finger apart on the screen and slide them towards each other on the screen.

Holy Trinity Platt church has signed up with the Roofbreaker Project with Through the Roof.

What is the layout of Platt?

This is the layout of the Platt church buildings.

Parking

We have 2 disabled parking spaces in the church car park for those with a disabled blue badge. This is near the entrance to the church.

Access

We have level access into and within the church building.

Welcome

A member of the Welcome Team will say hello to you when you arrive. The person will be wearing a lanyard and name badge. Do ask them if there is anything you need. Such as:

  • help with specific accessibility needs you have
  • help moving round the building
  • directions to find the toilets
  • someone to help you get to a seat

People with sight loss

The words of our worship songs and some of the prayers we say together are projected onto a screen. If you are not sure if you will be able to see them, please ask a member of the Welcome Team when you come in and they will be able to give you a printed words sheet (ordinary size or large print) and a large-print English Bible. We also have Bibles in other languages. If it would help for you to have the words on your device (eg your Tablet) then the words could be emailed to you in advance of the service. Please let us know by Friday before the relevant Sunday.

People with hearing loss

There is a hearing loop in the central section of the church. To be able to use it, please turn your hearing aid to the T position.

Makaton signing

Some songs at our Sunday morning services are signed with Makaton. If this is helpful for you, do sit near the front so you can see the signing.

Seating

There are comfortable chairs with armrests at the ends of rows in the main building. If you do not need a chair with armrests, please move to another chair. If you have a wheelchair or other mobility aid and want to stay in it/close to it, please let a member of the Welcome Team know where you would like to sit, and they can come with you to that place and move a church chair(s) out of the way for you.

During the Sunday service

In the main building, rows of chairs face the front stage. There is a worship band on the stage. The band play before and after services, and with the songs we all sing together.

The floor in the main church is carpeted. You’re welcome to sit on a chair anywhere in the seating area, stand, move about during the service.

We don’t mind noise, so don’t worry about making a noise during the service.

There is a mixture of spoken teaching and praying by people on the stage, and singing and praying that we all join in with. Any words that we all say together will be on the 3 screens near the front. Do sit close enough to the front to be able to see them. Or ask for a printed word sheet (see section above on People with sight loss).

Most people sit for the speaking and praying and stand to sing. But you can stay seated during the songs if that is better for you.

Services are about an hour long, or 80 minutes when they include Communion. Communion can be brought to you if needed – just let the person inviting you to move know you’d like to receive communion where you are sitting.

Children

Children with disabilities are welcome at Platt. They can stay with you in the service. Or you can go with them to the crèche, where the service is relayed. They are also welcome to join one of the children’s groups during the service. Please speak to Karen or Sarah.

At the end of the service, the leaders of the youth and children’s groups will bring children back to their parents/carers in church. You don’t need to go and collect them.

After the service

After the last song and prayer, refreshments (tea, coffee, squash and biscuits) are served in the space behind the same door through which the children left for their groups. The doors through to this area should now be open and the flooring is level and wood laminate. Our ladies and gents toilets and the accessible toilet are available through this door. This is a good time to meet people. If you need to sit down, members of the Hospitality Team (who also wear lanyards with name badges) can help you to find a seat near the refreshments. Do ask them to get a drink and biscuit for you if that would be easier for you. If you feel shy, do ask them to introduce you to other people.

Toilets and handrails

We have an accessible toilet. We have standard toilets with handrails. We have a baby changing facility.

Quieter church service

On Tuesday afternoons in term time, we have a quieter church service with fewer people than our Sunday services. It is followed by refreshments. Find out more from the church office.

Meeting for adults with learning disabilities and autism

There is a monthly meeting for adults with learning disability.
