David Poole- Reader

David Poole grew up in south Lancashire and came to Manchester to study Mathematics continuing as a postgraduate.  After subsequent periods on the staff of UMIST, Manchester, Keele and Salford universities he retired early in order to travel, grow cacti, take up bird watching, watch Lancashire cricket and collect stamps of various African countries. Throughout his lecturing career he actively encouraged CUs and their members. David trained as a Reader whilst leading youth work at St. Margaret's, Burnage, but later transferred to Platt when living nearby.

Including eight years living in Hulme Hall, he's  lived in walking distance of Platt church for over three decades. Currently a council member and trustee of Aim International (formerly known as Africa Inland Mission), David previously was for a dozen years the northern chairman of Scripture Union followed by a nine year stint on the council of UCCF.   He's a member of the British Cactus Society, the RSPB,  the Woodland Trust, Lancashire County Cricket club -  but is not a football fanatic!
