Forthcoming Hikes:

Saturday 20th October 2007 - Marsden and Mill Stone Edge, South Pennines.

9:30 a.m. meet at Platt for a moderately easy, classic moorland ramble in the South Pennines along Mill Stone Edge from Marsden (7 miles). Good views and gentle slopes. Bring waterproofs and a packed lunch. Please contact Andrew Knight or Peter Capon if you hope to come to ensure we have enough transport for all.

The Compass Group is Platt's hiking group. We meet on Saturdays about once a month and walk in the Peak District, North Wales, the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District.

The hikes are advertised in the church notice sheet and are graded as follows:

Easy: 4-6 miles of walking and fairly flat. About 3 hours of actual walking
Moderate: 6-9 miles with up to about 1500 feet of climbing. 4-5 hours duration. The majority of hikes are graded moderate
Strenuous: Longer distances or more climbing, taking up to 7 hours

We meet at church, at between 8 am and 10 am depending on the destination, and travel by car, sharing as necessary. Waterproof clothing is needed and proper boots for moderate or strenuous hikes. We take a packed lunch. The Compass group is an informal group and you are responsible for your own safety.

Everyone is welcome on the hikes and no special ability is needed apart from reasonable fitness. Current numbers on hikes vary from 5 - 30. The Compass group is a good opportunity to get out of Manchester and visit new places, especially if you do not have your own transport. It also gives you a chance to get to know some other church members and to chat together.

Full details of each walk and what time to meet are advertised in the Sunday service sheets two weeks prior to each walk.
