Music at Platt

Platt has been blessed with many varied and gifted musicians over the years - we'd love to include you in the music life of the church!

We aim to use the gifts in a number of ways, to the glory of God. At present, we have four regular bands aiding the congregation in worship, with a choir and other ensembles coming together for special occasions, such as Christmas and Easter Sunday. The bands consist of not only classical instruments, but also the more regular band line up of guitars, keys and drums. Alongside the musicians, a team of skilled audio operators work on a rota basis providing the congregation with a balanced, audible mix of sound through working with the band rehearsals and the equipment available in the church. Is this an area in which you could help us?

Have you ever played or sung in church services? Do you feel that these are skills you need to develop? Would you like to be trained as an audio operator? If you feel called to be involved in the music at Platt, please speak to the music director, Olly Hamilton, or the church office, so that we can place you in the situation best suited to you. We look forward to having you involved in this exciting area of church ministry!

The main requirements for involvement are:

A desire to use your musical skills for God's glory.

(For a band) Some proficiency in reading music and the ability to play your instrument, or sing, to a reasonable standard and in tune.

(For the choir) Some musical experience, the ability to sing in tune and to read music to a basic standard.

Reliability - when you agree to be in a band or the choir, you must make every effort to be committed and turn up on time to practices and services. (Rehearsals are as follows: 8.30 a.m. for morning services and 5 p.m. for a 6.30 p.m. service).

In charge of music are:

Olly Hamilton - Director of music. Alongside the rector, Olly is responsible for the spiritual oversight of the music.
Adam McNeeney - does the administrative work.
John Cooley - is in charge of the audio equipment.
